Kim Schoenberger is a sculptor and ceramicist her art practice is much about balance and, like the constant swing of the pendulum, she oscillates between being clay being the dominant material and the found elements that she gathers and frames.
Her work involves considerable amount of collecting, utilising a variety of recycled and salvaged materials which are turned into sculptures, bringing new life to old. She scourer's the land for items such as rusty car parts, cogs, wheels, nuts, bolts, washers, distorted tools anything that is pre-loved and destined for landfill.
Kim's work is both revealing and personal. Her ideas, thoughts and emotions have been given tangible form in her assemblages and ceramics, which can be described under the phase "commentary on the learnings and journeys of life"
Kim continues to broaden her skills engaging in a range of teaching experiences, residencies and of course, the more usual exhibitions. Kim has been in nearly 40 group and 5 solo shows since 2000. She is a member of over 12 affiliations including; NAVA, Creative Alliance, Australian Ceramics Assoc., Artisans, Flying Arts, Fusions— Australian Network of Clay + Glass Artists, Arts Connect Inc. to name a few.
Kim was one of twelve artists selected for the ABC Open and Queensland Arts Council project Artist by Artist - commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Queensland Arts Council, 2011. Kim is represented by Main Street Gallery, Montville and Studio 4 Gallery, Marcoola. Her works are held in private collections in Australia, USA, Japan, Germany, Great Britain and New Zealand..
In addition, in 2006 an image of Kim's work was included in the prestigious US book '500 Pitchers' published by Larks Books. Kim was one of twelve finalists in the 2003 National Graduate Exhibition at Fusions Gallery in Brisbane and received graduate awards in both 2002 and 2000.
